Job Description

Alberta Health Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cardiovascular Technologist to join our dynamic team in High River, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of cardiovascular diagnostic procedures, working closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely results, ultimately contributing to superior patient care outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform echocardiograms (transthoracic and transesophageal), stress echocardiograms, and other non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic tests.
  • Operate and maintain specialized diagnostic equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and calibration.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process, positioning them correctly, and ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, providing preliminary findings to cardiologists.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, institutional policies, and professional standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with advancements in cardiovascular technology.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of patient appointments as needed.

Required Skills

  • Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program.
  • Registration with Sonography Canada (formerly CARDUP) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or equivalent international certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent, relevant experience as a Cardiovascular Technologist.
  • Proficiency in performing and interpreting echocardiograms and other non-invasive cardiac tests.
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with patients.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Eligible for professional licensure in Alberta (if not currently licensed).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced cardiac imaging techniques (e.g., 3D echocardiography, strain imaging).
  • Previous experience in a Canadian healthcare setting.
  • BLS/ACLS certification.
  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.
