Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Probation Officer to join our team in Liverpool. In this crucial role, you will manage a caseload of offenders, assessing risks, developing and implementing supervision plans, and working collaboratively with partner agencies to support rehabilitation and public safety. You will be responsible for enforcing court orders, providing expert advice to courts, and promoting compliance through effective engagement and intervention strategies. This role requires a strong commitment to justice, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload of offenders, conducting comprehensive risk assessments and developing tailored supervision plans.
- Enforce court orders and licenses, taking appropriate action in response to non-compliance.
- Provide expert advice and reports to the courts and parole boards to inform sentencing and release decisions.
- Work collaboratively with police, prisons, health services, and other agencies to ensure integrated offender management.
- Facilitate group programs and one-to-one interventions designed to address offending behavior and promote rehabilitation.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all casework, ensuring compliance with national standards and local policies.
- Participate in duty rotas, safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and attending multi-agency meetings.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of probation services through professional development and reflective practice.
Required Skills
- Professional Qualification in Probation (PQiP) or equivalent (e.g., DipPS, DipSW with probation specific modules).
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in probation or a related criminal justice field.
- Demonstrable experience in risk assessment and management of offenders.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong report writing and administrative skills, with proficiency in IT systems.
- Commitment to public protection and reducing reoffending.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with restorative justice practices.
- Knowledge of local community resources and support networks in Liverpool.
- Proven track record of working with diverse offender populations.
- Further training or qualifications in specific areas such as substance misuse, mental health, or domestic abuse.
