Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Hospital Equipment Porter with a keen eye for detail to join our Technical Asset Management team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of vital medical equipment across our hospital site. Beyond traditional porter duties, you will play a key part in supporting our technical asset management processes, including logging equipment movements, assisting with inventory checks, and ensuring equipment is ready for maintenance or calibration. This position requires physical fitness, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and organization within a busy healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport a wide range of medical equipment, including sensitive and high-value items, to various departments and wards throughout the hospital.
  • Accurately record equipment movements and status updates using designated tracking systems or digital platforms.
  • Assist technical teams with inventory management, equipment location, and preparation for routine maintenance or repair.
  • Perform basic visual checks on equipment for obvious damage or missing components before and after transport.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and proper storage of medical equipment in designated areas.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to requests for equipment movement from clinical and support staff.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, health and safety guidelines, and infection control procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and visitors, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor.

Required Skills

  • Excellent physical fitness and ability to lift, push, and pull equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording information.
  • Basic computer literacy for equipment tracking and data entry.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and patient dignity.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures meticulously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a portering, logistics, or healthcare support role.
  • Familiarity with medical equipment handling and safety protocols.
  • Experience with inventory management or asset tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations within a hospital setting.
  • Full UK driving license (though primarily for on-site movement).
