Job Description

Are you passionate about the great outdoors and eager to start a career protecting our natural heritage? The National Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Entry-Level National Park Ranger to join our team in Wimbledon. This is a unique opportunity to live and work immersed in nature, contributing directly to the conservation and enjoyment of our cherished landscapes. As a National Park Ranger, you will be on the front lines of conservation, engaging with visitors, maintaining trails, and supporting ecological projects. No prior experience is required, as comprehensive training will be provided. We are seeking individuals who are physically fit, possess a strong work ethic, and have an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of designated natural areas, ensuring visitor safety and adherence to park regulations.
  • Engage positively with visitors, providing information, guidance, and promoting responsible enjoyment of nature.
  • Assist with practical conservation tasks, including habitat restoration, invasive species management, and wildlife monitoring.
  • Carry out minor maintenance on trails, signs, and other park infrastructure.
  • Report more significant maintenance issues, environmental concerns, or incidents to senior rangers.
  • Participate in educational programs and guided walks for the public.
  • Respond to minor incidents and provide basic first aid if required.
  • Uphold the values and mission of The National Trust in all interactions.

Required Skills

  • A genuine passion for nature, wildlife, and environmental conservation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of people.
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to learn and undertake new training, including basic first aid and specific conservation techniques.
  • A proactive attitude and problem-solving mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer experience in conservation, environmental education, or outdoor recreation.
  • Basic knowledge of local flora, fauna, and ecological principles.
  • A full UK driving license.
  • Educational background in environmental science, ecology, or a related field.
