Job Description

Join Derby City Council as a City Street Sweeper Operator and play a crucial role in keeping our city pristine. This full-time position requires individuals who are reliable, enjoy early starts, and are committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness across Derby’s streets and public spaces. You will operate modern street sweeping equipment, contributing directly to the aesthetic appeal and hygiene of our community. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate street sweeping vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Follow pre-determined routes and schedules for street cleaning.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure).
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, damage, or safety concerns.
  • Collect and dispose of litter, debris, and other waste from streets, sidewalks, and public areas.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and council policies.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Assist with manual litter picking or other environmental tasks as required.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK driving license (Category B minimum, HGV Class 2 highly desirable)
  • Ability to work early morning shifts, including weekends and public holidays when scheduled.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
  • Physical fitness to perform tasks that may involve lifting and manual labour.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and punctuality.
  • Commitment to health and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating heavy machinery or commercial vehicles.
  • HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving license.
  • Familiarity with Derby's road network.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for minor vehicle checks.
