Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Art Restoration & Conservation Intern to join our dedicated conservation team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the preservation and restoration of diverse art and historical artifacts. The intern will work closely with experienced conservators, contributing to the care of our extensive collections. This is an excellent stepping stone for individuals passionate about pursuing a career in art conservation, providing practical skills and exposure to professional museum practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior conservators with various aspects of art and artifact restoration, including cleaning, repair, and documentation.
  • Learn and apply conservation techniques under direct supervision for paintings, sculptures, textiles, or decorative arts.
  • Conduct basic condition assessments and assist in cataloging collection items.
  • Prepare detailed reports and photographic documentation of conservation treatments.
  • Support the maintenance of optimal environmental conditions in storage and exhibition areas.
  • Participate in object handling, movement, and installation processes.
  • Research conservation methodologies and materials relevant to ongoing projects.
  • Adhere to strict ethical guidelines and safety protocols in all conservation activities.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in art history, museum studies, or conservation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work as part of a team.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of material science or chemistry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Art History, Archaeology, Fine Art, Conservation Studies).
  • Prior volunteer or practical experience in a museum, gallery, or conservation studio.
  • Familiarity with art handling and collections management procedures.
