Job Description
Are you a dedicated high school student with a strong grasp of elementary school subjects and a passion for helping younger students succeed? Sylvan Learning of Columbus is seeking enthusiastic and responsible High School Tutors to provide academic support to elementary school students. In this rewarding part-time role, you will assist students with homework, reinforce core concepts in subjects like math, reading, and writing, and foster a positive learning environment. This is an excellent opportunity for high schoolers to gain valuable experience, develop leadership skills, and make a tangible difference in their community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to elementary school students (Grades K-5) in subjects such as Reading, Math, and Writing.
- Assist students with homework and reinforce concepts taught in their classrooms.
- Create an engaging, supportive, and fun learning atmosphere.
- Communicate student progress and challenges to lead teachers or center directors.
- Maintain a professional and positive demeanor at all times.
- Follow Sylvan Learning's curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Develop strong rapport with students to encourage their learning and confidence.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Strong understanding and proficiency in elementary school subjects (Math, Reading, Writing).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help younger students learn.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
- Ability to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Basic organizational skills to manage tutoring sessions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, babysitting, or volunteering with children.
- Participation in high school honor societies or academic clubs.
- Recommendations from teachers or community leaders.
