Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Analytical Chemist with a specialized focus on water and air quality to join our environmental team in Seattle, WA. In this role, you will be instrumental in conducting crucial laboratory analyses of environmental samples, contributing directly to our projects in compliance, monitoring, and remediation. You will operate and maintain a range of sophisticated analytical instrumentation, interpret complex data, and ensure the highest standards of quality and regulatory adherence. Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and precise chemical analyses on various environmental samples, including water, wastewater, soil, and air, using standard and advanced methodologies.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated analytical instrumentation such as GC-MS, ICP-MS, HPLC, ion chromatography, and other specialized equipment.
- Develop and optimize analytical methods for emerging contaminants and specific project requirements.
- Interpret analytical data, validate results, and troubleshoot any issues with instrumentation or methodologies.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, data summaries, and documentation in accordance with internal protocols and regulatory standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs, laboratory safety protocols, and good laboratory practices (GLP).
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, environmental scientists, and other team members to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Stay current with new analytical techniques, instrumentation, and environmental regulations relevant to water and air quality.
- Assist in managing sample intake, sample preparation, and laboratory inventory.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an analytical laboratory setting, preferably with a focus on environmental samples.
- Proven proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of analytical instruments (e.g., GC-MS, ICP-MS, HPLC, UV-Vis, TOC analyzers).
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations, particularly those related to water and air quality (e.g., EPA methods, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act).
- Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and QA/QC protocols rigorously.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with specific environmental matrices (e.g., PFAS analysis, air toxics, sediment analysis).
- Certifications in relevant laboratory techniques or safety (e.g., HAZWOPER).
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 accreditation standards.
- Experience in a consulting environment.
