Job Description
Are you eager to start a career in the trades and learn practical skills on the job? Carpetright is seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a Flooring Underlay Installer Assistant. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity to work alongside experienced tradesmen, learning the ropes of professional flooring installation. You will play a crucial role in preparing sites, assisting with underlay fitting, and ensuring a high standard of work. If you’re physically fit, keen to learn, and have a strong work ethic, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced flooring tradesmen with the preparation and installation of flooring underlay.
- Measure, cut, and secure underlay materials according to specifications.
- Help with lifting, moving, and positioning heavy rolls of underlay and other flooring materials.
- Prepare work areas by clearing old flooring, sweeping, and ensuring a clean and safe environment.
- Learn and apply best practices for underlay installation techniques and safety procedures.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are clean and in good working order.
- Assist with site cleanup, disposing of waste materials properly after each job.
- Follow all company health and safety guidelines and instructions from senior tradesmen.
- Provide excellent customer service by maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor on site.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and kneeling.
- Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable and punctual with a commitment to showing up on time for every job.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manual labor role or construction environment is a plus, but not essential.
- A full UK driving license is preferred due to travel between job sites.
- Awareness of health and safety practices in a workplace setting.
