Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Machinist / Programmer to join our dynamic engineering team in Rotherham. This is a critical role responsible for operating and programming advanced CNC machines to produce precision components for high-stakes applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC machining, including setting up, programming (G-code, Fanuc, Siemens controls), and operating various machines such as lathes, mills, and boring machines. This position offers full support for a Skilled Worker Visa for eligible international candidates, demonstrating our commitment to attracting global talent. You will work on challenging projects, contributing to the manufacture of vital parts that underpin national infrastructure and defence.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and program CNC machines (lathes, mills, boring machines) to produce high-precision components.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining operations.
- Develop and edit CNC programs using G-code, M-code, and CAM software (e.g., Siemens NX, Fanuc).
- Select and manage appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for various materials (e.g., steel alloys).
- Perform in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Monitor machine performance, identify and troubleshoot issues, and perform basic machine maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality control teams to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist and Programmer.
- Proficiency in G-code and M-code programming.
- Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, or similar CNC control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of various machining processes and material properties (especially steel alloys).
- Commitment to quality and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or vocational qualification in Machining, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Experience with CAM software such as Siemens NX, Mastercam, or PowerMill.
- Familiarity with large-scale or heavy machining operations.
- Previous experience in defence, aerospace, nuclear, or similar high-precision industries.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
