As an Entry-Level Weigh Station Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of commercial vehicles on Ontario’s roads, learning from experienced professionals and developing valuable skills in transportation enforcement and regulatory oversight. This position requires hands-on involvement at designated weigh stations.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and apply MTO regulations and policies related to commercial vehicle weight, dimensions, and safety standards.
- Assist senior inspectors in conducting thorough inspections of commercial vehicles at designated weigh stations.
- Operate weigh scales and other inspection equipment accurately.
- Verify vehicle documentation, including licenses, permits, and logbooks, under supervision.
- Participate in the identification of potential safety violations and compliance issues.
- Document inspection findings and contribute to the preparation of detailed reports.
- Communicate effectively with commercial drivers and other stakeholders in a professional manner.
- Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Undergo continuous training and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in transportation enforcement.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and a physically demanding environment.
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and record-keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to public safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a role requiring attention to detail or public interaction.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics or logistics.
- Familiarity with the Highway Traffic Act and other related transportation legislation.
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., law enforcement, transportation, logistics).
