Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Clinical Chemist to join our diagnostic medical lab team in Katy, TX. This is a full-time, on-site position offering a shift differential for evening, night, and weekend work. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of complex chemical analyses on biological specimens, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all test results. You will play a crucial role in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by providing essential diagnostic information to healthcare providers. This role requires adherence to strict quality control standards, troubleshooting instrumentation, and contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex chemical analysis on biological specimens (blood, urine, CSF) using automated and manual techniques.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate various laboratory instruments and equipment, including troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Ensure the accuracy, precision, and timeliness of all test results by adhering to established quality control procedures.
- Interpret and validate test results, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or unusual findings.
- Maintain accurate records of all laboratory procedures, quality control data, and instrument maintenance.
- Assist in the development, validation, and implementation of new assays and methodologies.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs and internal/external audits.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, laboratory policies, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, CAP, COLA).
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior laboratory staff when required.
- Collaborate with other laboratory departments and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- ASCP Board Certification as a Clinical Chemist (DABCC) or Medical Technologist (MT/MLS).
- Minimum 2 years of post-doctoral or clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing, preferably in clinical chemistry.
- Strong understanding of analytical techniques, quality control, and laboratory safety protocols.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting automated clinical chemistry analyzers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with LIS (Laboratory Information Systems) and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) software.
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Prior experience in method validation and assay development.
- Previous experience working evening, night, or weekend shifts in a clinical laboratory setting.
