Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic pharmacy team. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely supply of medications to our inpatient wards, contributing directly to patient care and safety within a busy hospital environment. You will work closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver an exceptional standard of pharmacy service.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately dispense and label inpatient medications, including controlled drugs, sterile products, and chemotherapy, according to prescriptions and hospital policies.
- Manage stock levels, conduct expiry date checks, and assist with ordering and receiving pharmaceutical supplies to ensure continuous availability.
- Perform ward visits to conduct medication reconciliation, counsel patients on new medications, and provide advice on safe storage and administration.
- Utilize pharmacy computer systems for prescription processing, inventory management, and patient record keeping.
- Participate in the training and supervision of junior pharmacy staff and students.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the pharmacy department.
Required Skills
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification.
- Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with significant experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
- Proficient in pharmacy computer systems and medication management software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification.
- Experience with specialist areas such as aseptic dispensing, oncology, or critical care.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in pharmacy practice.
