Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Cattery Worker to join our vital team in Horsham. This role involves providing the highest standard of care to cats awaiting rehoming, ensuring their well-being, comfort, and happiness. You will be responsible for daily husbandry, health monitoring, and socialisation, contributing directly to their journey towards a loving forever home. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning and disinfection of cattery pens and facilities to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Provide appropriate food and fresh water to all cats according to their dietary requirements and schedules.
- Monitor the health and behaviour of all cats, reporting any concerns or changes to senior staff or veterinary personnel immediately.
- Administer medication as directed by veterinary staff, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
- Engage in socialisation and enrichment activities to promote positive mental and physical well-being for all cats.
- Assist with the admission and discharge of cats, ensuring all paperwork is accurately completed and records are updated.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, daily observations, and other relevant information.
- Liaise with potential adopters, providing information about the cats and their specific needs and temperaments.
- Assist with general cattery maintenance and ensure a safe environment for both animals and visitors.
Required Skills
- Genuine passion for animal welfare and a deep love for cats.
- Ability to handle cats safely and confidently, including those who may be nervous or uncooperative.
- Excellent observational skills and meticulous attention to detail regarding animal health and behaviour.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the public.
- Physical fitness to perform duties including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and manual cleaning tasks.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an animal care setting (e.g., cattery, kennel, veterinary clinic, animal shelter).
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Animal Care or a related field.
- Knowledge of common feline diseases, symptoms, and basic first aid.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.
