Job Description
Are you ready to kickstart a rewarding career as a professional HGV / CDL Driver? Ryder System, Inc. is offering an incredible opportunity for aspiring drivers to join our team. We believe in investing in talent, which is why we will cover the full cost of your training and tests to obtain your Class A CDL license. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with little to no prior commercial driving experience who are eager to learn, committed to safety, and ready to embark on a fulfilling career path in transportation. Upon successful completion of your training and licensure, you will transition into a full-time HGV / CDL Driver role with Ryder.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and successfully complete all aspects of the HGV / CDL training program.
- Learn and adhere to all DOT regulations, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Practice safe driving techniques under supervision, gaining proficiency with various vehicle types.
- Prepare for and pass the written and practical CDL exams within the designated timeframe.
- Develop skills in pre-trip and post-trip inspections, basic vehicle maintenance checks, and load securement.
- Communicate effectively with trainers, dispatch, and other team members.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic, punctuality, and a positive attitude throughout the training.
- Maintain a clean and organized training vehicle environment.
Required Skills
- Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record (no major infractions within the last 3-5 years).
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to rules and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs and perform strenuous tasks as required for the job.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior experience operating larger vehicles (e.g., box trucks, farm equipment) a plus, but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and learn new skills quickly.
- A keen interest in the logistics and transportation industry.
