Job Description

Join Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust as a Zoologist to lead critical wildlife surveys, data analysis, and conservation strategy implementation across our nature reserves. This on-site role in Mansfield requires a passionate individual dedicated to protecting and enhancing Nottinghamshire’s diverse ecosystems and animal populations through robust scientific methods and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ecological surveys and fieldwork across various habitats to monitor animal populations and biodiversity.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret biological data to assess wildlife health and habitat quality.
  • Prepare detailed reports and scientific papers on research findings and conservation recommendations.
  • Develop and implement species-specific conservation action plans.
  • Advise on habitat management techniques to support target species.
  • Liaise with landowners, local authorities, and community groups on wildlife conservation initiatives.
  • Contribute to grant applications and fundraising activities to support conservation projects.
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff, volunteers, or interns as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in zoology, ecology, or a related field.
  • BSc or MSc in Zoology, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting ecological fieldwork and species identification.
  • Proficiency in data collection, statistical analysis, and report writing.
  • Strong understanding of British wildlife and conservation issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving license and access to personal transport.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant zoological or ecological discipline.
  • Experience with GIS software for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Holder of relevant protected species licenses (e.g., bats, great crested newts).
  • Previous experience working with a conservation charity or NGO.
  • Knowledge of ecological modelling and advanced statistical techniques.
