Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Urology Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic team at Hôpital Sainte-Croix. This vital role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients with urological conditions, encompassing pre-operative, post-operative, and long-term management. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in patient education, counseling, and direct care, ensuring optimal outcomes and an enhanced patient experience. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of urological patients, including physical, psychological, and social aspects.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients with various urological conditions, such as kidney stones, prostate issues, bladder dysfunction, and urological cancers.
- Administer medications, perform wound care, catheter management, and other specialized nursing procedures.
- Provide extensive patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, pre- and post-operative care, and lifestyle modifications.
- Collaborate effectively with urologists, surgeons, other nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
- Monitor patient progress, identify complications, and intervene appropriately.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with professional standards and organizational policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous professional development in urological nursing.
Required Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Current registration and good standing with the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ).
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in urology, surgical, or acute care nursing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of urological conditions, treatments, and procedures.
- Proficiency in clinical assessment, patient education, and critical thinking.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in both French and English (verbal and written).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Nursing or a related field.
- Certification in Urology Nursing (e.g., CURN).
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems specific to Quebec health networks.
- Prior experience in a specialist nurse role or advanced practice nursing.
