Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors and eager to start a career in environmental conservation? Forestry England is seeking a dedicated Trainee Forestry Technician to join our team in Worcester. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals with little to no prior experience to gain hands-on training and develop essential skills in forest management and national park maintenance. You will work alongside experienced professionals, learning about sustainable forestry practices, biodiversity conservation, and public access management within our beautiful national parks and woodlands. This role offers a clear pathway to becoming a skilled forestry technician, making a tangible difference to our natural environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with tree planting, felling, and timber extraction activities under supervision.
- Learn and apply techniques for pest and disease identification and management.
- Participate in the maintenance and construction of footpaths, trails, and visitor facilities.
- Support biodiversity monitoring and habitat improvement projects.
- Operate and maintain forestry equipment safely and efficiently after appropriate training.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Contribute to public engagement and visitor management initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong enthusiasm for outdoor work and environmental conservation.
- Ability to undertake physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Good team player with strong communication skills.
- Basic understanding of health and safety principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Full UK driving license.
- Previous experience in outdoor work, even on a voluntary basis.
- First Aid certification.
- Basic knowledge of tree species and woodland ecology.
