Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Trainee Addiction Counselor to join our Public Health Department. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals passionate about public health and dedicated to helping those struggling with addiction. Under direct supervision, the Trainee Addiction Counselor will learn and assist in providing support, guidance, and resources to individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. This role involves comprehensive training in counseling techniques, assessment, treatment planning, and crisis intervention, all within a public health framework aimed at community wellness.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in extensive training programs to develop core competencies in addiction counseling.
- Assist certified counselors in conducting initial assessments and developing individualized treatment plans for clients.
- Learn to facilitate individual and group counseling sessions under supervision.
- Support clients in navigating community resources and support systems for recovery.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic client care.
- Engage in continuous professional development and adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong desire to help individuals struggling with addiction
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach
- Basic computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related human services field
- Volunteer experience in a healthcare, social services, or community outreach setting
- Understanding of the principles of addiction and recovery
