Job Description
As a Train Dispatcher, you will be a critical part of our operational team, responsible for the safe and efficient dispatch of trains from stations. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. You will ensure that trains depart on time, adhere to safety protocols, and contribute directly to the smooth running of our services.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and punctually dispatch trains in accordance with railway rules and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with train drivers, control centres, and other station staff.
- Monitor train movements and platform activity, ensuring passenger safety.
- Implement emergency procedures and assist in managing disruptions.
- Operate platform equipment, including public address systems and platform indicators.
- Maintain accurate records of train movements and incidents.
- Conduct pre-departure checks and ensure train readiness.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and make swift decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in following strict operational procedures and safety guidelines.
- Basic IT literacy for record-keeping and system operation.
- Must be able to pass all required railway safety and medical examinations.

- Previous experience in a railway operational role or similar regulated environment.
- Understanding of railway signalling principles and train movements.
- Knowledge of South Western Railway network operations.
