Job Description
As a Textile Technologist at Magna International, you will play a crucial role in the research, development, and application of textile materials for various automotive components, including seating, interior trim, and safety systems. You will be responsible for material selection, testing, process optimization, and ensuring compliance with stringent automotive standards. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development of new textile materials and applications for automotive interiors and components.
- Perform material characterization and testing (e.g., tensile strength, abrasion resistance, flammability, colorfastness).
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to integrate textile solutions into product development.
- Optimize textile manufacturing processes, ensuring quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Source and evaluate new suppliers for textile raw materials and finished goods.
- Ensure all textile materials and processes comply with relevant automotive industry standards (e.g., ISO, FMVSS) and Magna's internal specifications.
- Troubleshoot textile-related issues during production and provide technical support.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and sustainable textile practices.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for new and existing textile materials.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in textile technology, preferably within the automotive, aerospace, or technical textiles industry.
- Strong understanding of textile manufacturing processes (weaving, knitting, non-wovens, dyeing, finishing).
- Proficiency in textile testing methodologies and equipment.
- Knowledge of automotive textile standards and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Experience with CAD software for textile design or pattern making.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Project management experience in R&D or product development.
- Experience with sustainable textile development or recycled materials.
- Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
