Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Telecommunications Network Engineer to join our dynamic team in Durban. This pivotal role involves the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our advanced telecommunications network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of network protocols, hardware, and software, with a passion for ensuring high availability and performance of critical systems. Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and troubleshoot complex telecommunications network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and reliability.
- Perform routine network maintenance, upgrades, and security patches to ensure system stability and integrity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and services into the existing network architecture.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Respond to and resolve network incidents and outages, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical network support outside of business hours.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in telecommunications network engineering.
- Proficiency with IP routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and switching technologies (VLANs, STP).
- Experience with network security principles and technologies (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
- Hands-on experience with equipment from major vendors (e.g., Cisco, Huawei, Ericsson).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent.
- Experience with cloud networking platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Knowledge of SDN/NFV concepts and technologies.
- Familiarity with network automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible).
