Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Radiology Nurse (RN) to join our Imaging Support team at our Shirlington location. This full-time position offers stable hours and the opportunity to work within a state-of-the-art imaging department. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing various diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. You will play a crucial role in patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care, working closely with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient health status, including medical history, allergies, and current medications, prior to imaging procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures, including starting IVs, administering medications (e.g., contrast, sedatives) as ordered, and providing patient education.
- Monitor patients closely during and after procedures for any adverse reactions, changes in vital signs, or complications.
- Assist radiologists and other medical staff during interventional procedures, biopsies, and other complex imaging-guided interventions.
- Manage and maintain a safe and sterile environment within the radiology suite.
- Provide clear and concise post-procedure instructions to patients and their families.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately and completely in electronic health records.
- Respond to emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions, including advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with all regulatory standards.
Required Skills
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital setting, preferably in Radiology, ED, ICU, or PACU.
- Proficiency in IV insertion and medication administration.
- Excellent critical thinking, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond calmly in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- PALS certification.
- Experience with various imaging modalities (e.g., MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine).
- Certification in Radiology Nursing (CRN) or other relevant specialty certification.
