Job Description

We are offering an exceptional Plastic Surgery Shadowing & Clinic Intern position for highly motivated individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience and observational learning within a busy academic plastic surgery practice. This role provides an unparalleled opportunity to observe surgical procedures, participate in clinic operations, and gain insight into the daily life of a plastic surgeon and their team. This is a non-clinical role focused on observation and administrative support, offering a foundational experience for a career in medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe a variety of plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures in an operating room setting (non-participatory).
  • Shadow plastic surgeons and residents during patient consultations and follow-up appointments in clinic.
  • Assist clinic staff with administrative tasks, patient flow, and organizing educational materials.
  • Learn about patient education processes and pre/post-operative care instructions.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in departmental educational activities, such as grand rounds or case discussions, if opportunities arise.
  • Research and compile information on various plastic surgery topics or upcoming procedures as requested by staff.
  • Support the team in preparing for presentations or research projects.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a pre-medical program, medical school, or related healthcare field.
  • Demonstrated strong interest in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., volunteer, shadowing, research assistant).
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
