Job Description

Are you passionate about pets and eager to start a career in professional pet grooming? PetSmart in Guelph is looking for a motivated Pet Groomer Aide to join our salon team. This entry-level position offers comprehensive on-the-job training to teach you the fundamentals of bathing, brushing, and basic pet care under the guidance of experienced groomers. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring pets are comfortable, clean, and happy while learning valuable skills that can lead to a rewarding career as a professional pet groomer. No prior grooming experience is required – just a love for animals and a willingness to learn!

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist professional groomers with bathing, drying, and brushing pets of various breeds and sizes.
  • Handle pets gently and compassionately, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the grooming process.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary grooming environment, including cleaning kennels, tubs, and grooming tools.
  • Learn and apply proper handling techniques for different pet temperaments.
  • Monitor pets for any signs of distress or health concerns and report them to the groomer.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and pet parents.
  • Follow all safety protocols and company policies.
  • Assist with basic salon tasks, such as laundry, stocking supplies, and organizing the grooming area.

Required Skills

  • Genuine love for animals and a passion for their well-being.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver pets of various sizes (up to 50 lbs unassisted).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Comfortable working with different breeds and temperaments of dogs and cats.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with animals (e.g., pet owner, volunteer at a shelter, vet assistant).
  • Basic knowledge of dog and cat breeds and their common grooming needs.
