Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Part-time Stable Hand to join our team, focusing on weekend morning duties. This role is crucial for maintaining the health, safety, and comfort of our horses and the cleanliness of our facility. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for horses, strong work ethic, and be comfortable with physical labor in an outdoor environment. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure our stables run smoothly and our horses are well-cared for before the day’s activities begin.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily feeding and watering of horses according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
  • Clean stalls thoroughly, including mucking out, refreshing bedding, and ensuring a hygienic environment.
  • Turn out and bring in horses safely from pastures/paddocks.
  • Maintain cleanliness of barn aisles, tack rooms, wash racks, and other stable areas.
  • Assist with basic horse grooming as needed, including currying, brushing, and hoof picking.
  • Monitor horses for any signs of injury, illness, or distress, and report concerns to management immediately.
  • Organize and maintain hay, feed, and bedding storage areas.
  • Perform light grounds keeping duties around the barn, such as sweeping, raking, and trash removal.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and animal handling best practices.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to handle horses safely and confidently.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
  • Reliability and punctuality, especially for early morning shifts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and observation skills.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of horse behavior and care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a stable, farm, or animal care setting.
  • Knowledge of various horse breeds, disciplines, and basic equine first aid.
  • Experience operating farm equipment (e.g., tractors, utility vehicles) a plus, but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
