Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic High School Orchestra Teacher to inspire and educate our students in the rich tradition of orchestral music. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive orchestra curriculum, directing various student ensembles, and fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. This role requires a dedicated professional who can cultivate musical talent, prepare students for performances and competitions, and contribute positively to the school’s performing arts department.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging curriculum for high school orchestra classes, covering music theory, history, and performance techniques.
- Conduct and rehearse multiple orchestral ensembles (e.g., Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra).
- Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and inspires students while aligning with educational standards.
- Organize and direct school concerts, recitals, and other performance opportunities.
- Prepare students for regional and state-level competitions and festivals.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback for musical growth.
- Manage and maintain school instruments, equipment, and music library.
- Collaborate with other music faculty and school staff to promote arts education.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administrators regarding program activities and student progress.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and musical knowledge.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in orchestral instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion).
- Strong conducting skills and ensemble leadership.
- Expertise in music pedagogy and curriculum development for secondary education.
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate diverse groups of students.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of music theory, history, and various musical styles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Education, Orchestral Conducting, or a related field.
- Experience teaching high school orchestra, preferably 2+ years.
- Certification in Music Education from the state of Georgia.
- Familiarity with music technology and software.
- Experience in arranging or composing for student orchestras.
