Job Description
Cobb Cole, P.A. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal & Legal Studies Intern to join our dynamic team in Daytona Beach. This internship offers an invaluable opportunity for students currently enrolled in a paralegal program or legal studies curriculum to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced law firm environment. The intern will assist attorneys and paralegals with various tasks, contributing to ongoing cases and learning the practical applications of legal principles. This role is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the day-to-day operations of a prominent legal practice, enhancing theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys and paralegals with legal research, drafting memos, and preparing legal documents.
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
- Prepare exhibits, discovery documents, and other materials for hearings, trials, and meetings.
- Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel under supervision.
- Attend client meetings, depositions, and court proceedings when appropriate and permitted.
- Summarize deposition transcripts, medical records, and other relevant documents.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, managing correspondence, and data entry.
- Conduct factual investigations and gather information pertinent to cases.
- Learn and adhere to firm policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited Paralegal Studies program or Legal Studies curriculum.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an office environment, preferably legal.
- Familiarity with legal research platforms such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
- Understanding of basic legal terminology and court procedures.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
