Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Ophthalmologist to join our dedicated team at Nuffield Health Oxford. As an Ophthalmologist, you will play a pivotal role in diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide spectrum of ocular conditions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a leading private healthcare provider, contributing to exceptional patient outcomes through advanced diagnostic techniques and surgical interventions. You will be instrumental in providing expert consultations, performing complex eye surgeries, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated and holistic care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations and vision tests to diagnose ocular diseases and conditions.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including prescribing medications and corrective lenses.
- Conduct a variety of surgical procedures, such as cataract removal, glaucoma surgery, corneal transplants, and refractive surgery, utilizing advanced ophthalmic equipment.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, ensuring patient comfort and successful recovery.
- Collaborate effectively with optometrists, nurses, and other specialists to ensure seamless and coordinated patient care.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date patient medical records in compliance with clinical guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities, keeping abreast of the latest advancements in ophthalmology.
- Educate patients and their families on eye health, treatment options, and preventative care strategies.
Required Skills
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a Licence to Practise.
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Ophthalmology or equivalent specialist registration in the UK.
- Demonstrable extensive experience in ophthalmic diagnosis, medical management, and surgical procedures.
- Proficiency in a range of ophthalmic surgical techniques, including anterior segment and potentially posterior segment surgery.
- Excellent diagnostic acumen, clinical judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
- A strong commitment to patient safety, evidence-based practice, and continuous quality improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training in a subspecialty of Ophthalmology (e.g., Retina, Glaucoma, Oculoplastics, Paediatric Ophthalmology).
- Experience with advanced ophthalmic imaging technologies (e.g., OCT, angiography) and laser treatment modalities.
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth).
- Previous experience in a private healthcare setting.
- Involvement in clinical teaching, research, or audit activities.
