Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Neonatal Nurse to join our highly skilled team within the Neonatal Unit at Horton General Hospital in Banbury. This vital role involves providing expert nursing care to premature and sick newborns and their families within a fast-paced and supportive environment. You will be instrumental in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for neonates, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and family-centred care. This position requires a strong commitment to continuous professional development and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to neonates requiring intensive care, high dependency care, or special care.
- Monitor vital signs, administer medications, and manage advanced medical equipment specific to neonatal care.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with medical staff and families.
- Educate and support parents, empowering them to participate in their baby's care.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and NMC guidelines.
- Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and contribute to care planning.
- Act as a mentor and role model for junior staff and students.
- Identify and respond to changes in a neonate's condition, escalating concerns appropriately to senior staff or medical team.
Required Skills
- Valid NMC registration as a Registered Nurse (Child) or Adult Nurse with extensive paediatric/neonatal experience.
- Proven experience in a neonatal unit setting.
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills specific to neonates.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathise with families during stressful times.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage complex situations with professionalism.
- Proficiency in administering medications and managing medical equipment safely.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (e.g., QIS, ENB 405 or equivalent).
- Experience with advanced respiratory support techniques for neonates.
- Mentorship qualification or experience in supervising junior staff/students.
- Experience in leading shifts or coordinating care within a neonatal unit.
