Job Description
Join AdventHealth as a Music Therapy Assistant and embark on a fulfilling career where you can make a tangible difference in the lives of patients. We provide comprehensive, hands-on training to equip you with the skills needed to support our certified music therapists. You will work within a collaborative healthcare team, contributing to patient well-being through music-based interventions. Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified music therapists in planning and implementing music therapy sessions for individuals and groups.
- Prepare session materials and set up equipment (instruments, audio systems) prior to therapy sessions.
- Facilitate patient engagement during music activities, following therapist guidelines.
- Document observations of patient responses and progress under the supervision of a certified therapist.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized therapy environment.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients during sessions.
- Learn and apply various music therapy techniques and interventions as directed.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Adhere to all AdventHealth policies, procedures, and patient confidentiality guidelines.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic understanding of music (ability to read music or play a basic instrument is a plus, but not required)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Empathy and a compassionate demeanor
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new techniques
- Reliability and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or caregiving setting (volunteer or paid)
- Some college coursework in music, psychology, or a related field
- Proficiency in playing one or more musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, ukulele)
- Familiarity with diverse music genres
