Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Government Funded Youth Worker to join our team in Chatham, Ontario. This vital role focuses on supporting and engaging youth through various programs, primarily during evening and weekend shifts. The successful candidate will work directly with young people, providing mentorship, guidance, and access to resources that promote positive development, skill-building, and community integration. This position is perfect for someone committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of youth, fostering a safe and inclusive environment, and contributing to the overall well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and facilitate engaging and age-appropriate programs and activities for youth during evening and weekend shifts.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and positive role modeling to young participants, fostering their personal and social development.
  • Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with youth, understanding their needs and aspirations.
  • Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to identify resources and opportunities for program enhancement.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, adhering to YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate program records, attendance sheets, and incident reports.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist youth in accessing educational, recreational, and employment-related resources.
  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all youth.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working with youth, preferably in a community or educational setting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and program facilitation abilities.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain immediately).
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (upon offer of employment).
  • Availability to work consistent evening and weekend shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Recreation and Leisure Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with government-funded youth programs or non-profit organizations.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and youth services in Chatham-Kent.
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
