Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Music Director and Band Teacher to lead and inspire our middle and upper school band programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching various band classes, directing ensembles, and fostering a love of music in our students. This role requires a dynamic educator who can manage diverse skill levels, prepare students for performances and competitions, and contribute to the school’s vibrant arts community. Candidates eligible for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum for middle and upper school students.
- Direct various instrumental ensembles, including concert band, jazz band, and potentially smaller chamber groups.
- Prepare students for school concerts, community performances, festivals, and competitions.
- Teach music theory, history, and appreciation in conjunction with instrumental instruction.
- Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to individual needs.
- Collaborate with other arts faculty to create interdisciplinary projects and performances.
- Manage band equipment, inventory, and rehearsal spaces.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school administration regarding program activities and student progress.
- Actively participate in school events, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Performance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching band or instrumental music in a school setting.
- Proficiency in directing various instrumental ensembles.
- Strong knowledge of music theory, harmony, and instrumental techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse age and skill levels.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Eligibility for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for international candidates, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Experience with music technology and digital audio workstations.
- Proven track record of success in competitive band programs.
- Ability to teach a secondary instrument or music discipline.
- Experience in curriculum development and program innovation.
