Job Description

Banfield Pet Hospital in Pomona, CA, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kennel Hand Trainee with an animal care focus. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for individuals with no prior experience in a kennel setting. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in animal husbandry, sanitation, and client communication. Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas daily to maintain a healthy and hygienic environment for animals.
- Feed and provide fresh water to boarding animals according to their specific dietary plans and schedules.
- Monitor animals for signs of distress, illness, or unusual behavior and report observations to veterinary staff.
- Provide exercise and enrichment activities for animals, including supervised playtime and walks.
- Assist with bathing and grooming animals as needed.
- Handle animals safely and humanely, demonstrating a calm and reassuring demeanor.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication (under supervision), and animal behavior.
- Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint and basic care procedures when necessary.
- Launder animal bedding and towels regularly.
- Ensure proper inventory and replenishment of kennel supplies.
Required Skills
- Genuine passion for animal welfare and care.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Physical stamina to handle demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and protocols.
- Comfortable working with various types of animals, including those who may be anxious or unwell.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior volunteer experience at an animal shelter, rescue, or related organization.
- Basic understanding of animal behavior or first aid (not required, but a plus).
