Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Human Resources (HR) Director to lead our HR department in Calgary. This pivotal role involves developing and implementing HR strategies that align with Suncor Energy’s overall business objectives, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring compliance with all labour laws and regulations. The HR Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources management, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, organizational development, and HR policy. This position offers visa sponsorship for exceptional international candidates who bring a global perspective and proven leadership in HR within a large, complex organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
- Lead and mentor the HR team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Oversee talent acquisition and retention programs, ensuring Suncor attracts and retains top talent globally.
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, providing guidance and support to management and employees.
- Design and implement competitive compensation and benefits programs that attract and retain employees.
- Drive organizational development, performance management, and succession planning initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Develop and manage HR budgets, metrics, and reporting to demonstrate HR's impact on business outcomes.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the organization.
- Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on all HR-related matters.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing HR strategies in a large, multi-national organization.
- Strong understanding of Canadian labour laws and HR best practices.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor a high-performing HR team.
- Expertise in talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, and organizational development.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Human Resources or MBA.
- CHRP/CPHR designation or equivalent professional certification.
- Experience within the energy, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Proven track record of managing HR in an international context, including visa sponsorship processes.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and data analytics for strategic decision-making.
