Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Hospital Porter to join our essential team, operating on 12-hour shift rotations. This crucial role involves ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, samples, and supplies throughout our hospital facilities. You will be an integral part of the healthcare team, providing vital support that directly impacts patient care and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, including those with varying mobility levels, between wards, departments, and clinic areas.
  • Move medical equipment, beds, trolleys, and other vital supplies as required across the hospital site.
  • Deliver and collect specimens, blood products, pharmacy items, and other sensitive materials.
  • Assist with the transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary, maintaining dignity and respect.
  • Ensure all areas are kept tidy and free from obstructions, reporting any hazards or maintenance issues.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines, infection control policies, and manual handling procedures.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate approach.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and reliability, including punctuality for shifts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for following instructions and record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or public-facing role.
  • Experience in a similar portering, logistics, or transport role.
  • Knowledge of manual handling techniques and patient moving equipment.
  • A valid full UK driving license (desirable for potential inter-site transfers).
