Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated High Voltage Engineer to join our dynamic team in Manchester. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of high voltage electrical systems and components, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with industry standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects within the energy and infrastructure sectors, contributing to the development of robust and efficient electrical networks. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, leveraging your expertise to deliver innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high voltage electrical systems, equipment, and components, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
  • Conduct detailed technical calculations, simulations, and risk assessments for HV installations.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of high voltage apparatus, including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and cables.
  • Perform troubleshooting, fault analysis, and provide technical support for operational HV systems.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and contractors to ensure project delivery on time and within budget.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes in high voltage engineering.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in high voltage engineering design, testing, or maintenance.
  • Profound knowledge of HV power systems, components, protection schemes, and fault analysis.
  • Familiarity with relevant international and national electrical standards (e.g., IEC, BS, ENA Technical Specifications).
  • Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) and simulation tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in High Voltage Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it.
  • Experience with renewable energy integration into the grid.
  • Knowledge of substation design and automation systems.
  • Project management experience in the power sector.
