Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and safety-focused Material Handler with a heavy industrial focus to join our team in Lubbock, TX. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement, loading, and unloading of freight using various material handling equipment. This position requires a strong commitment to safety protocols, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, industrial setting. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods through our freight terminal, contributing directly to our operational success and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely load, unload, and move freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
- Verify accurate counts and condition of freight against shipping documents.
- Sort and stage freight in designated areas, ensuring proper storage and accessibility.
- Operate scanning equipment to track inventory and maintain precise records.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Perform routine pre-shift inspections of equipment and report any maintenance issues.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment within the warehouse and dock areas.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize freight flow and meet operational goals.
- Assist with manual lifting and handling of freight as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment in a heavy industrial setting.
- Strong understanding and commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy freight (up to 75 lbs) regularly.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and scanning.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in freight handling or warehouse operations.
- Forklift certification from an accredited institution.
- Experience with LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight operations.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS).
