Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Diplomat to join our advocacy and policy team. In this pivotal role, you will represent Oxfam’s interests and values on international platforms, engaging with governments, multilateral organizations, and civil society partners to influence policy and drive change. This position requires exceptional negotiation skills, a deep understanding of international relations, and an unwavering commitment to human rights and social justice. You will be instrumental in shaping our global advocacy strategies, building impactful alliances, and ensuring that the voices of those affected by poverty and injustice are heard at the highest levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent Oxfam International at high-level international forums, conferences, and bilateral meetings.
- Develop and implement diplomatic strategies to advance Oxfam’s policy positions and advocacy priorities.
- Engage with government officials, diplomats, and representatives of international organizations to build consensus and drive policy change.
- Prepare comprehensive briefing materials, position papers, and reports on key global issues.
- Monitor international political developments and advise on their potential impact on Oxfam’s work.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including diplomatic missions, NGOs, and civil society groups.
- Negotiate agreements and partnerships that support Oxfam’s strategic objectives.
- Lead and participate in collaborative advocacy initiatives with partner organizations.
- Provide expert analysis and recommendations on complex international policy challenges.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in diplomacy, international relations, or high-level advocacy.
- Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical abilities and strategic thinking.
- Deep understanding of global political landscapes and multilateral systems.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in additional UN languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Arabic) is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to represent an organization with integrity and professionalism.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in research and report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Law, or a related field.
- Experience working within a governmental foreign affairs department or a major international NGO.
- Specific expertise in areas such as humanitarian policy, climate justice, economic inequality, or human rights.
- A track record of successful policy influence and advocacy outcomes.
- Familiarity with the UK diplomatic landscape and international policy community based in the UK.
