Job Description
Join the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System as a City Transit Bus Driver and play a vital role in connecting our community. We are seeking professional and safety-conscious individuals to operate transit buses on various routes within the Chula Vista area. Key Responsibilities
- Operate transit buses safely and efficiently over designated routes, adhering to time schedules.
- Ensure the safety of all passengers, including safe boarding and alighting.
- Collect fares, issue transfers, and provide accurate information regarding routes, schedules, and fares.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus and report any mechanical defects or issues.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, dispatchers, and supervisors.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
- Handle passenger inquiries, resolve minor conflicts, and provide assistance as needed.
- Complete necessary paperwork and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
Required Skills
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and Air Brake endorsements.
- Clean driving record for the past 5 years.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong commitment to safety and passenger comfort.
- Minimum age of 21 years old.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical ability to operate large vehicles and assist passengers as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience as a bus driver or in a related transportation role.
- Knowledge of the Chula Vista and broader San Diego County road network.
- Familiarity with public transit operations and regulations.
