Job Description

Dolby Laboratories is seeking a motivated Acoustics & Audio Engineering Intern to join our innovative team in Airdrie, Alberta. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge audio projects, learn from industry experts, and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic research and development environment. You will work on various aspects of audio technology, from acoustic measurements and signal processing to creative sound design for immersive experiences. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in the design, setup, and execution of acoustic measurements and experiments.
- Contribute to the analysis of audio data, including spectral analysis, spatial audio characteristics, and subjective listening tests.
- Develop and implement sound design elements for prototypes, demonstrations, or specific project requirements using digital audio workstations (DAWs) and other tools.
- Support the calibration and maintenance of audio equipment, anechoic chambers, and listening environments.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas for new audio technologies and experiences.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and sound design workflows clearly and concisely.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and content developers.
Required Skills
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Fundamental understanding of acoustics, psychoacoustics, and digital signal processing (DSP) principles.
- Proficiency with at least one Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live).
- Basic programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or similar for audio analysis and scripting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior academic project experience in audio recording, mixing, mastering, or sound synthesis.
- Familiarity with acoustic simulation software (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, ODEON).
- Experience with audio hardware prototyping or embedded audio systems.
- Knowledge of immersive audio formats (e.g., Dolby Atmos, object-based audio).
- A portfolio demonstrating sound design work or audio-related projects.
- Genuine passion for audio technology, music, and immersive experiences.
