Job Description

Southern States Cooperative is looking for enthusiastic and hardworking 14-year-old teens to join our team as seasonal Farm Hands in the Chesterfield, Virginia area. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local agriculture, learn about farm operations, and contribute to your community. As a Farm Hand, you will assist with various tasks essential to the seasonal farming cycle, working closely with experienced farm staff. This role is perfect for individuals eager to work outdoors, learn new skills, and understand where their food comes from.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planting, weeding, and harvesting crops under supervision.
  • Help with general farm maintenance, including cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Support the preparation of produce for market or storage.
  • Participate in irrigation activities, ensuring crops receive adequate water.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and instructions provided by farm supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve daily goals.
  • Learn about different crops, farming techniques, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Required Skills

  • Must be 14 years of age or older at the start of employment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, sun, light rain).
  • Strong work ethic and a positive, eager-to-learn attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the farm location.
