Job Description
Hy-Vee is seeking dedicated and responsible individuals for the role of Alcohol & Tobacco Compliance Checker, with a specific focus on ensuring compliance with age verification laws for sales to individuals under 21. As a Compliance Checker, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding public health and upholding legal standards by conducting discreet, unannounced visits to various retail locations that sell alcohol and tobacco products. Your primary objective will be to attempt purchases without proper age identification, documenting the outcome of each visit, and reporting findings to ensure our commitment to responsible sales practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform unannounced compliance checks at Hy-Vee retail locations and potentially other designated establishments selling alcohol and tobacco products.
- Attempt to purchase age-restricted products without presenting valid identification, mimicking a realistic scenario.
- Accurately document the outcome of each compliance check, including whether a sale was completed and if age verification was requested.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding compliance check schedules, locations, and findings.
- Adhere to all legal guidelines and company policies related to alcohol and tobacco sales and compliance checking procedures.
- Provide clear, concise, and objective reports on all conducted checks.
- Collaborate with compliance managers to identify areas for improvement in age verification training and enforcement.
- Ensure personal safety and discretion during all assigned duties.
Required Skills
- Must be between 18 and 20 years of age to legally participate in controlled purchase attempts.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong sense of responsibility and integrity.
- Ability to work independently and maintain discretion.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to various locations within the Kansas City metropolitan area.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for accurate reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a role requiring discretion or adherence to strict protocols.
- Familiarity with local and state laws regarding alcohol and tobacco sales.
- Basic knowledge of data entry and reporting tools.
