Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Remote Human Rights Advocate to join our Global Policy team. This is a crucial work-from-home role focused on analyzing global human rights issues, developing policy recommendations, and advocating for change on an international scale. The successful candidate will monitor human rights developments, conduct research, draft reports, and engage with international bodies, governments, and civil society partners to influence policy and practice. This role requires a deep understanding of international human rights law, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to communicate complex issues effectively to diverse audiences. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to contribute to a critical global mission from anywhere.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of human rights situations and policy frameworks globally.
- Draft compelling reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and advocate for evidence-based policy recommendations to governments, international organizations, and other relevant actors.
- Monitor legislative, policy, and political developments related to human rights worldwide.
- Represent Human Rights Watch in meetings, conferences, and public forums, presenting findings and policy positions.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, research, and communications, to ensure integrated advocacy strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with human rights defenders, civil society organizations, and academic institutions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in human rights research, advocacy, or international policy.
- Strong understanding of international human rights law and mechanisms.
- Exceptional analytical, research, and writing skills.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a diverse global team.
- Proficiency in English, with excellent public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Advanced degree in Law, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin).
- Experience working with international human rights bodies or NGOs.
- Track record of successful policy advocacy or campaigns.
- Experience in cross-cultural communication and collaboration.
