Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Pothole Repair Crew Member to join our dedicated Roadworks team. This vital role involves carrying out essential road maintenance, primarily focusing on the repair of potholes and other minor road defects across the St Helens borough. You will work as part of a close-knit team, ensuring our roads remain safe and functional for all users. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped with the necessary skills and safety knowledge for this important role.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and assess potholes and other road surface defects.
- Prepare road surfaces for repair, including cleaning and drying.
- Apply asphalt and other materials to fill and repair potholes using hand tools and machinery.
- Operate various road maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures, including traffic management guidelines.
- Work effectively as part of a team to complete daily assignments.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
- Complete necessary paperwork and daily logs.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety principles.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and undertake training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in road maintenance, construction, or a similar manual labour role.
- Full UK driving licence (Category B).
- NRSWA Streetworks Operative qualification (training can be provided if not held).
- Awareness of local geography of St Helens.
