Job Description
Are you passionate about community well-being and eager to kickstart a career in public health? Toronto Public Health is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Public Health Educator Trainee to join our Community Outreach team. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, providing comprehensive training and mentorship to develop essential skills in public health education and community engagement. You will assist in planning, developing, and implementing health promotion programs and outreach initiatives aimed at improving the health outcomes of diverse populations in Scarborough. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and delivery of public health education materials and presentations for community groups.
- Participate in community outreach events, health fairs, and workshops to engage residents and disseminate health information.
- Support the coordination of community partnerships and collaborations with local organizations.
- Help collect and analyze data related to program effectiveness and community health needs.
- Undergo comprehensive training on public health principles, communication strategies, and cultural competency.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and community interactions.
- Provide administrative support to the Public Health Educator team as needed.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a related field is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated passion for public health and community service.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel within the Scarborough region for outreach activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some volunteer or internship experience in a community-based setting.
- Knowledge of public health issues affecting diverse populations in Toronto.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to Scarborough's diverse communities (e.g., Tagalog, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tamil, Urdu).
- Valid G-class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
