Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Payroll Manager to lead our payroll department at our Sunderland plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payment of salaries and benefits, compliance with all statutory regulations, and continuous improvement of our payroll processes. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to precision within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a large workforce, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK legislation (PAYE, National Insurance, SSP, SMP, etc.).
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of payroll administrators, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the calculation and processing of wages, deductions, bonuses, and expenses.
  • Ensure timely submission of all payroll-related reports to HMRC and other statutory bodies.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll data and processes.
  • Manage and resolve complex payroll queries and issues.
  • Stay abreast of changes in payroll legislation and advise on necessary system or process adjustments.
  • Prepare comprehensive payroll reports for management.
  • Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure data integrity and compliance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Manager in a large organisation.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., SAP, Oracle HRMS, Sage Payroll).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience within the manufacturing or automotive industry.
  • Knowledge of pension scheme administration (e.g., auto-enrolment).
  • Experience with HRIS systems integration.
