Job Description

As an Elderly Companion with Home Instead, you will provide vital non-medical support, focusing on social interaction, companionship, and light assistance. You will help clients maintain their independence, engage in meaningful activities, and provide peace of mind to their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging companionship and social interaction tailored to client interests.
  • Assist with light household duties, such as tidying, laundry, and meal preparation.
  • Support clients with errands, shopping, and accompanying them to appointments.
  • Encourage and assist with hobbies, activities, and outings within the local community.
  • Offer medication reminders, ensuring clients take their prescribed medication on time (no administration).
  • Report any changes in client condition or concerns to the care manager promptly and professionally.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • A compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature, genuinely interested in supporting older adults.
  • Reliability and punctuality, understanding the importance of consistent support.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with elderly individuals and their families.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Possession of a valid UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle (preferred for client transportation).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a care, support, or voluntary role involving elderly individuals.
  • Basic first aid knowledge or willingness to undertake training.
  • Local knowledge of Sheffield and surrounding areas to facilitate client outings and errands.
