Job Description

Alberta Health Services is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Nursing Aide (HCA Trainee) – Hospital Based. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals with little to no prior healthcare experience to receive comprehensive, hands-on training and become a vital part of our patient care team. As a trainee, you will learn essential skills, provide direct patient support under supervision, and contribute to a compassionate healing environment in one of Calgary’s leading hospitals. We provide all necessary training and support for you to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all provided training modules and practical sessions.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, under direct supervision.
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Support patient comfort and emotional well-being.
- Assist with basic patient procedures as directed and trained.
- Document care provided accurately and timely, following established protocols.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated compassion and empathy towards others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn and commit to a structured training program.
- Physical ability to perform duties typical of a hospital setting (e.g., standing for long periods, lifting, assisting with transfers).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior volunteer experience in a healthcare or service-oriented setting.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
