Job Description
Join the United Parcel Service (UPS) team as a Hospital Porter, a crucial role linking our world-class logistics expertise with the vital operations of a hospital environment. In this position, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of patients, medical equipment, supplies, and specimens throughout the hospital facility. This role is integral to maintaining the seamless flow of hospital services, directly impacting patient care and operational efficiency. You will be a key player in ensuring that everything and everyone is where they need to be, when they need to be there, contributing to a well-organized and responsive healthcare supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients safely and comfortably between various hospital departments, using wheelchairs, gurneys, or beds.
- Move medical equipment, laboratory specimens, pharmacy items, and clean/soiled linen according to established protocols.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of supplies from delivery vehicles, ensuring proper storage and distribution within the hospital.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including storage areas and transport equipment.
- Communicate effectively with hospital staff, patients, and visitors to ensure smooth transitions and provide assistance.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, safety regulations, and infection control procedures.
- Respond promptly to requests for porter services, prioritizing urgent needs efficiently.
- Perform minor equipment checks and report any malfunctions or damage immediately.
Required Skills
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to lift, push, and pull heavy items regularly.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-oriented approach.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Basic understanding of safety procedures and willingness to learn specific hospital protocols.
